On April 20, 2026, Unit 1 of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Project was commissioned, becoming the first "Hualong One" nuclear power unit in the Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area. Just over three months later, Unit 2 followed suit and was officially put into operation. Both units adopt China's domestically developed third‑generation nuclear power technology "Hualong One," with over 90% of core equipment localized. Each unit has a rated electrical power of approximately 1,200 MW. With the full commissioning of both units in Phase I, the project will deliver over 18 billion kWh of clean electricity to the Greater Bay Area annually, reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 16.63 million tonnes per year.
